In May, 2018, I spent a week exploring the
city of Portland
in Oregon state
in United States of America.
Many people may not know too much about Portland, but it is well worth a visit.
This page shows some highlights of my trip.
Public transportation is very conveniently and cheaply provided by bus, light rail,
streetcar, aerial tram, and bicycle. Good food, beer, wine, coffee, and tea are plentiful.

Portland Japanese Garden
The beautiful and serene
Portland Japanese Garden
is a must-visit site.
I arrived early and stayed late. A keen landscape photographer
will need a whole day to explore the garden.

Artisanal Coffee and Tea
I took a
guided tour
of Portland's unique coffee and tea culture.
Portlanders take their coffee and tea very seriously. While Starbucks cafes
are plentiful, artisanal cafes such as Stumptown Coffee Roasters,
Portland Roasting Coffee, and Nossa Familia Coffee are thriving.

I took a guided tour of the Columbia River Gorge area outside of Portland.
I visited several waterfalls and scenic view points. Mount Hood, the highest
mountain in Oregon, is sometimes visible from Portland.

Architecture
I was impressed by several Portland architecture. I walked the length of the
Tilikum Crossing
bridge, which was built in 2015. I rode the
Portland Aerial Tram.
I visited the Collaborative Life Sciences Building, a $295 million-dollar
LEED-Platinum-certified structure.
