In October, 2008, I spent three days in the town of Solomons in southern Maryland, United States. Solomons is located at the intersection of the Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay. It is a small town with numerous marinas, small shops, restaurants, and inns.
The Back Creek Inn is a bed-and-breakfast in Solomons. It has seven rooms and I stayed in the comfortable Rosemary room on the first floor. The Inn's backyard is beautifully landscaped and has a private pier on the Back Creek. The interior is decorated with original paintings for sale. I enjoyed the overall experience and recommend the Back Creek Inn to travelers.
I visited the Annmarie Garden and the Calvert Marine Museum. I also took a cruise on the Patuxent River on a converted oyster boat named William B. Tennison.
A trail at the Calvert Cliffs State Park ends at a sandy beach on the shore of the Chesapeake Bay. I hiked the 1.8-mile trail through a tidal marsh to the natural and undeveloped beach. The eroding cliffs along the shore deposit fossils on the beach.
